Pepper spray for self defense
By Bryan Buckner of Guardian Self Defense & Security Products LLC
One of the most important things you can do for yourself and family is to be proactive when it comes to personal and home security. There were over 1.3 million violent crimes in the U.S. last year. That is an average of over 3,500 per day! As Americans, we work so hard to make it. Some of us work multiple jobs, others spend years in higher education, still others take entrepreneurial risks each day, all in hopes accomplishing the 'American dream'. What many of us don't realize is that crime has the potential to take it all away in a split second. A great way to protect yourself and home is carry a good self defense pepper spray. Pepper spray is legal in all states (a few states have restrictions on the formula that can be used and/or where citizens can purchase their pepper spray or mace.). Pepper spray is inexpensive and lasts between three and four years, so you won't need to replace it often. Pepper spray is effective from distances between 8 and 25 feet depending on the model. One of the most appealing aspects of pepper spray is the ability to stop an attacker from a distance. Pepper spray works almost instantly and effects last up to 30 minutes. Many models for many different uses. Whether you need protection at home, at work, while exercising or for protection against aggressive dogs, you can find a model made for almost any occasion. Like anything, there is always pro's and con's. I believe that the pro's far outweigh the con's when it comes to using pepper spray for self defense. Spraying a fogger style pepper spray directly into a stiff wind can lead to 'blow-back'. This is when some of the spray comes back at the user. This can be all but eliminated by choosing a ballistic stream, foam or gel pepper spray. Practice makes perfect, if you are not willing to practice using a spray, then you probably should not carry it.

Bryan, I love your article! You really make a good point with "Spraying a fogger style pepper spray directly into a stiff wind can lead to 'blow-back'. This is when some of the spray comes back at the user. This can be all but eliminated by choosing a ballistic stream, foam or gel pepper spray." Self Defense Products Florida
